I will be participating in an annual tea pot show at the Three Wheel Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The opening reception is on October 15th and the work will also be available for purchase online. Should be a great show.
if anyone is interested in pieces available for sale, check out If Art Gallery’s webpage
there are several sculptures as well as tiles available for purchase. Plus lots of other amazing artists’ work is available—-if you are in or near Columbia, South Carolina you should drop in and say “Hi” to Wim for me!
Some of these pieces are waiting for a home….I am tempted to hang on to them as a memento of my existence here in San Antonio.
These are images of some new tiles, these are all done using the same technique. None of these pieces were made by a mold, the form is built from slabs, when the clay is still wet the black line image is incised onto the surface using both an exacto knife and needle tool. After the clay has fully dried (usually takes 2 weeks) then it can be placed in the kiln for the bisque firing. After this, glaze is applied into to give it a rich, bright finish to catch the eye and really bring out the illustration. They are all made to hang on the wall easily. Due to their hollow form they are extremely light weight. I have sent all these tiles to If Art Gallery and intend to send any future similar pieces to this venue!!! Enjoy!
I have had the privilege and honor of getting to know and also watch the performances of the Colombian born professional storyteller Carolina Quiroga Stultz. She has an interest in stories originating from Latin America—and uses her craft to educate and shed light upon the richness of culture in this region. In the fall we are going to be exhibiting a collaborative project at several venues in San Antonio. It will take place around the date of Dia dos los muertos October 31- November 2(day of the dead) and thematically the stories and sculptures will be used to honor this celebration. I highly recommend checking out her website and youtube channel, you can listen while you’re working in the studio!—-it isn’t the same as seeing her live, but it’s the second best thing! Come to San Antonio and watch it in real time!!! http://www.carolinastoryteller.com/
stay posted for progress on this project
The pictures I am posting are works in progress, these two sculptures are 85% finished, hopefully to be completed within the next couple of weeks. Neither Carolina or I have ever collaborated on a project quite like this before, so we’ll see what happens. The ultimate intention for us is to learn from this experience, grow as artists, and communicate with our community.
